As the 62nd Anniversary of African Day is commemorated by Africans, the Sierra Leone High Commission in Accra, Ghana, on Sunday, 24th May, took part in a "Cuisine Festival" organized by the African Group of Ambassadors and High Commissioners in Ghana.
The event, which took place at the Pavilion of Alisa Hotel, North Ridge in Accra, brought together Africans from different parts of the continent, including diplomats led by their Heads of Mission, officials from the Ghana Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other prominent invitees.
The festival gave the different African countries with diplomatic presence in Accra an opportunity, through their High Commissions and Embassies, to display their traditional or local dishes and drinks, including some of their products, for each and every one to see and have a taste.
Officially welcoming participants and guests, the Dean of the African Group of Ambassadors, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco, Her Excellency Mrs. Imane Ouaadil, welcomed everyone to the event, marking the 62nd African Union Day.
She described the event as an occasion to celebrate the hospitality of Africa, its richness, and diversification, noting that it is also an opportunity to invite the guests to try the different African cuisines while celebrating the important milestone.
HE. Quaadil thanked her team members and colleagues, Heads of Mission, the Deputy Heads of Mission, and the Africa Bureau for their constant support in putting the entire event together.
Representing the Ghana Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Madam Hilaria Mabel Dey, Director of the Regional Integration Bureau, congratulated the African Missions for coming together to celebrate the independence, oneness, energy, unity, and strength of Africans.
She reminded us all about the theme for this year’s Africa Day, “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations,” launched by Ghana’s President, HE. John Dramani Mahama.
Madam Dey encouraged all to enjoy themselves in the African way as part of celebrating ourselves.
The Cuisines displayed were nicely prepared, with foods and flags of countries represented in Accra, Ghana, while Songs from these African countries were also played.
Sierra Leone High Commission team was led by the High Commissioner, HE. Mr. Mohamed Kaisamba, followed by his diplomatic and support staff, including the invited Sierra Leoneans residing in Ghana.
Different types of Sierra Leonean food and drinks, such as Cassava Leaves, Crain Crain, Jollof Rice, Beans, Rice Akara, and Ginger Beer, were displayed at the booth assigned to Sierra Leone.
